Federica De Angelis MSc, BA (Hons) MBACP (Snr Accred), BPC (Reg), MBT Cert., Cert. in Psychosexual Studies
I am a BACP Senior Accredited Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and BPC Registered Psychodynamic Counsellor with over 25 years’ experience in the psychosocial field in Italy and in the UK having originally qualified as a social worker in 1996.
Highly experienced in working with a wide range of issues including trauma, psycho-oncology, personality disorders, chronic and life threatening health conditions, and sexual health, I have provided counselling and psychotherapy in a variety of social and mental health settings.
I hold an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck College University of London, which I obtained before attending further trainings at the Tavistock Relationships and at the Anna Freud Centre in London.
At the Anna Freud Centre I attended training in Mentalization based treatment while at the Tavistock Relationships I gained a Certificate in Psychosexual Studies, had training in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy, and I am on advanced Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy training.
Alongside the clinical work in my private practice, for a number of years and until August 2022, I was employed in the NHS at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where I offered specialist Counselling to Oncology patients (inpatients and outpatients) and their carers, and where I supervised groups of nursing staff.
My wide-ranging clinical experience also include counselling students at the UCL Student Psychological Services, providing long-term psychotherapy (18 months) at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust- Lambeth IPTT Personality Disorders Service, and both brief and open-ended therapy at Sutton Counselling, a charitable counselling service in Sutton.
I am a Training Therapist for Psychodynamic and Integrative training courses and apart from the psychodynamics of Chronic and life-threatening Health Conditions, I have a special interest in Personality Disorders, Psychosomatic Presentations, Relationship and Psychosexual issues (intimacy, desire, compulsive sexual behaviours, arousal disorders, menopause, fertility issues).

I attend regular clinical supervision and in order to maintain continuing professional development, I regularly go to talks, conferences, and take part in learning activities. Among others, I have attended for more than two years, the Borderline Workshops, a series of theoretical and clinical weekly seminars and group discussions at the South London and Maudsley, as well as the Seminars on Psychosomatics and a number of Maudsley and Introductory Lectures, run by the Institute of Psychoanalysis.
I am a Senior Accredited member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and a Registered member of BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council) and abide by their ethical frameworks and codes of practice.
When providing Relationship and Psychosexual Therapy I work within the COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists) ethical framework.
I am also a full member of the BCA (Birkbeck Counselling Association).
